Wetenschappers van Harvard hebben een nieuwe methode geperfectioneerd voor massaproductie van kleine "micro-robots", te beginnen met de Mobee, een Robot Bij die niet groter is dan een Amerikaanse 1 cent munt. Harvard wetenschappers hebben de uitvinding gedaan om massaal robot insecten te produceren - het creëren van 'sheets' met kleine robot bijen, die ineens opduiken, klaar voor actie. Wanneer geactiveerd, duikt een 2.4 millimeter lange robot insect op uit het plaatje van koolstofvezel. De wetenschappers zeggen dat ze zo 'zwermen' van zelfstandig vliegende robot insecten willen creëren. Het gehele product heeft ongeveer de grootte van een Amerikaans kwartje, en tientallen van de micro robots zouden ineens kunnen 'opduiken' uit één enkele sheet. De 18-laagse structuur bevat flexibele scharnieren, die het mogelijk maken het driedimensionale product - slechts 2.4 millimeter hoog -- uit elkaar te klappen in één beweging, zoals een pop-up boek. Alto45 - The Robot Heart music video

This is the official music video for 'The Robot Heart' by Norwich electro-geniuses Alto45. The video tells the love story of two robots played out on their inventor's drawing board. We shot this video a couple of years ago now. I filmed this on a Nikon D300 - no video mode; the live action was strung together from more than 4000 still photos. The robots were drawn and animated in Sketchup and composited with Premiere Elements - the whole thing was made on a shoestring (we only paid for lighting hire) but took about two months to put together. The video was first featured in the second BBC Music Video Festival in 2010. The single is out on 26 March 2012, available via iTunes and Bandcamp.
